The city of Amesbury is seeking an experienced, highly organized, and collaborative professional to serve as Chief of Staff to the Mayor. This leadership role provides high-level administrative and strategic support across all areas of city operations. The Chief of Staff works closely with city departments, elected officials, legal counsel, and community stakeholders to advance city initiatives and ensure effective, transparent governance.
Key responsibilities include developing and implementing city policies and procedures, supporting departmental and fiscal management, assisting with budget preparation, and addressing operational and personnel matters. The Chief of Staff also represents the Mayor at City Council meetings, public events, and other functions, often requiring work beyond regular business hours.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in government, public administration, or a related field, with five to ten years of relevant experience in municipal or public-sector management. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to manage sensitive and confidential information.
Salary Range: $85,000 – $95,000 annually, excellent benefits package.
