The city of Newburyport seeks a collaborative, multi-dimensional and detail-oriented Chief of Staff with excellent interpersonal and communication skills who is responsible for the operational and administrative aspects of managing and leading all city Departments. The Chief of Staff provides professional advice and support to the Mayor, City Council, and a variety of officials, departments, boards and committees concerning the policies, goals, regulations, and statutory requirements of the city.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration, public administration/policy, management or related field. A master’s degree in a similar field is preferred.
- A minimum of three years of professional experience working with constituents in a fast-paced office setting. Ideally some of this will have been gained in local or state government providing support to elected officials and/or municipal offices.
- Familiarity with key aspects of municipal management including procurement, financial management, budgeting, and relevant Massachusetts General Law.
- Demonstrated ability to interact objectively, professionally, diplomatically and compassionately with the public, state and local officials and co-workers, as well as a collaborative nature allowing for positive and productive working relationships with the Mayor and city Department Heads.
- Ability to analyze and interpret data and to clearly communicate findings to decision-makers.
- Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple (and at times competing) priorities, retaining focus and a sense of urgency.
- Salary range between $92,750 and $102,750 depending on experience, plus benefits.
