Charlemont (pop. 1,300) is seeking a community-oriented Police Chief to lead this newly reorganized police department (approx. budget $178K) consisting of the Chief of Police, one FT officer, and two PT officers. In addition to command and administrative functions, the Chief is required to be highly visible in the community while performing patrol and law enforcement functions. Located in the northwestern Massachusetts’ Berkshire Mountains area, with State Route 2 (the Mohawk Trail) traversing the town, Charlemont has easy access to I-91 and is conveniently located to cities in Massachusetts, Vermont, and New York. The Town is governed by a three-member Select Board with an appointed Town Administrator.
Associate’s degree in a related field is preferred. At least five years as a police officer with two in supervisory, command or administrative positions; or any equivalent combination of education and experience is required. EOE.
