The city of Gardner is seeking to fill the non-civil service position of Chief of Police. This is a department head-level position, under the general supervision of the Mayor and in accordance with applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Law. The Police Chief directs, manages, supervises and coordinates the activities and operations of the city of Gardner Police Department, including the development, implementation and evaluation of police, dispatching and animal control services. Work is performed in concert with the principles and practice of police and emergency service management and is affected in part by local government, state laws and regulations.   • Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration or a related field.
  • 10 years of progressively responsible experience with at least five years of increasingly responsible command experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • First Responder and CPR certification.
  • Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms.
