The city of Westbrook is seeking an innovative, proven, approachable, and visionary leader for its next Chief of Police. Below you will see an overview of the department and detail for the position. The Westbrook Police Department is a community-policing oriented department, which is proud to protect and serve the city of Westbrook. We have 43 sworn officers and five professional support staff providing law enforcement services to the community 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. This is highly responsible executive level work in planning, organizing, developing, implementing, evaluating and directing all operations and activities of the Police Department. Work includes: law enforcement, criminal investigations, support services, direct or indirect supervision through subordinate supervisory personnel of all personnel assigned to the Police Department, administrative functions, coordination of assigned activities with other departments and other service providers, community engagement, and highly responsible and complex administrative support to the Mayor’s Office.
Extensive and progressively responsible experience in all phases of police work, including five years in an executive command and a four-year bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is preferred. Must possess a Basic Law Enforcement Certificate, as well as a current Firearms Certification. Graduation from a command/leadership academy, master’s degree in public administration, and an Executive Law Enforcement Certificate are desirable. Any combination or equivalent of experience and education that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities would be qualifying.
