The city of Amesbury is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Business Manager to oversee the administrative operations of the department of Public Works (DPW), supporting its three divisions: Highway, Water, and Wastewater. This full-time position (35 hours/week, Monday–Friday, 7 a.m. –3 p.m.) plays a vital role in managing customer service, personnel administration, fiscal planning, and internal policies.
Key responsibilities include supervising customer service staff, coordinating union contract administration, assisting in budget preparation, managing payroll and procurement processes, and ensuring compliance with municipal, state, and labor regulations. The Business Manager will also support the Director in policy development, capital planning, and labor negotiations, serving as a key liaison with Human Resources and other city departments.
The ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field, with three to five years of progressive administrative experience. Municipal or union experience and MCPPO certification are strongly preferred. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills are essential.
