The Southborough Building department seeks qualified applicants for a full-time Department Assistant. Position requires knowledge of Massachusetts General Laws, related municipal policies, building/zoning codes and office operations and reports to the Building Commissioner.
Duties include assisting the public with inquiries, coordinating communication between inspectors, contractors, property owners, and other municipal departments; ensuring department workflows align with local, state, and federal regulations; providing guidance on permitting, zoning, and code enforcement procedures; assisting with complaint resolution; supporting legal and regulatory proceedings by organizing documentation & coordinating with municipal legal counsel and monitoring fee collection(s).
Applicants must have the ability to appropriately deal with the general public, local officials and other municipal peers, with a focus on superior customer service delivery.
Job requirements: Problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; excellent technology skills demonstrating knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs and online permitting. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred with three to five years of progressive administrative experience, or a related field will be considered. Any equivalent combination of education and experience will be reviewed.
Compensation: Current pay range begins at $26.53/hour.
