The town of Lincoln – an organization that believes that workforce diversity strengthens performance, integrity, trust, and partnerships with our staff, boards, committees, community, and guests – is seeking a full-time Building Inspector/Zoning Enforcement Officer for its Planning and Land Use Permitting Department.

Under the general direction of the Director of Planning and Land Use, this position is responsible for administering all provisions of local regulations and the State Building Code, enforcing zoning bylaws, and overseeing weights and measures compliance. The Building Inspector will serve as a vital resource for ensuring safe construction practices and regulatory compliance throughout the community.

The Building Inspector will examine plans and specifications, issue permits, conduct field inspections, and enforce building and zoning codes. They will assist the Zoning Board of Appeals, oversee weights and measures certifications, and supervise department staff including three part-time inspectors and one administrative assistant. Additional responsibilities include acting as the Town’s Floodplain Administrator, resolving code compliance issues, attending board meetings, preparing reports and budgets, and coordinating with other town departments.

Associate or bachelor’s degree in construction, civil engineering, or related field required; seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in building trades and general contracting required; minimum of five years of experience as a building inspector, zoning administrator, or code enforcement officer required; certification by the Board of Building Regulations and Standards required. Valid driver’s license required; excellent interpersonal and computer skills required; ability to perform physical inspections in various weather conditions required.

Salary range up to $122,598.19 with full benefits. This position is a FLSA Exempt.
