BUILDING INSPECTOR / CODE ENFORCEMENT OFFICER
Certified as an Inspector of buildings in accordance with the provisions of MGL 143, Sec. 3, with a minimum of five years of supervisory experience in building construction or design is required, or in the alternative a four-year undergraduate degree in a field related to building construction or design, or any combination of education and experience which would confer equivalent knowledge and ability according to the BBRS.
Obtain and maintain Massachusetts Certified Building Inspector, and valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Duties require thorough knowledge of modern building construction methods, materials, tools and equipment and their proper use and application. Thorough knowledge of the municipal and state building codes, zoning bylaws and related rules, regulations and/or ordinances is essential. Working knowledge of structural engineering of moderately complicated structures is required. Knowledge of requirements for building construction, light, ventilation, fire prevention and fire safety exits and knowledge of building materials and equipment essential for the safety, comfort and convenience of the occupants of buildings and structures is required. Ability to use computers and a variety of software in records management is required. Ability to read architectural engineering manuals, contract specifications, legal briefs, and administrative and judicial decisions is required. Strong communication skills with ability to express ideas and concepts orally and in writing and to effectively maintain working relationships with employees, public officials, contractors and the general public are required.
