Enforcement and interpretation of the State Building Code, local zoning bylaws, fire prevention and ventilation pertaining to building codes, and other applicable regulations; all other work as required. Works under the policy direction of the Board of Selectmen through the Town Administrator, and under the applicable provisions of the Massachusetts General Laws and town by-laws.
Performs varied and responsible duties requiring the exercise of considerable judgment in the application and interpretation of building codes, zoning bylaws and other applicable regulations.
Works with the Zoning Board of Appeals and may attend evening meetings as required.
Manages the operations of the Building department which include: building, electrical, plumbing/gas, zoning enforcement and public buildings. Reviews and approves or denies applications for building permits. Serves as Fence Viewer.
Examines and reviews plans for building construction or alteration to determine compliance with state codes, local zoning bylaws, and other applicable regulations. Makes on-site inspections of new buildings and alterations to buildings under construction and upon completion for conformity with structural requirements, approved plans and zoning restrictions. Issues certificates of occupancy for new construction.
