The town of Medfield is seeking a Building Commissioner to perform structural inspections, enforcement, and administrative work in managing the Building Department. Serving as the Zoning Enforcement Officer, candidates must have thorough knowledge related to enforcement, interpretation, and compliance with the Mass. state building code, local zoning ordinance and other applicable regulations. Work includes review of building plans, conducting onsite inspections, interpreting and enforcing building codes and zoning bylaws, attending Board of Appeals meetings, writing zoning enforcement letters, supervising staff, communicating information and providing assistance to the public, town departments, and various boards and committees. Supervisory and administrative duties required to ensure the efficient operation of the Building Department. Responsible for managing the Building Department budget.

In accordance with the provisions of M.G.L. C143, Sec 3, the Building Inspector shall be certified as a Massachusetts Inspector of Buildings/Building Commissioner and have at least five years’ experience in supervision of building construction and/or design or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates proficiency and knowledge. Candidates should be proficient in computer applications including online permitting.  Must be able to access all levels of a construction site and traverse uneven terrain; possess a Class D driver’s license.
