The town of Medway seeks qualified candidates for a full-time Building Commissioner. The Building Commissioner performs professional, technical, and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the Massachusetts Building Code, the town Zoning Bylaws, and other applicable statutes, rules, and regulations relating to building construction and design; other related work, as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Associate’s degree, advanced technical training, five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. State certification as a Building Commissioner/Inspector of Buildings and Construction Supervisor License required. Valid Massachusetts motor vehicle operator’s license. Thorough knowledge of the Massachusetts Building Code, local zoning, and other applicable state statutes, rules, and regulations; and general knowledge of building construction, fire prevention, light, ventilation, and safe egress. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, plans, and Massachusetts General Laws and regulations; ability to communicate information to the general public, enforce regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially, and communicate effectively in written and oral form. Working knowledge and experience with Word and Excel programs, GIS, and online permitting applications. Communication and public relations skills; decision-making skills.
Salary: $95,000 – $115,000/year, dependent upon experience and qualifications.
