The town of Bourne, an affirmative action, equal opportunity employer, seeks a qualified candidate for a full-time Building Commissioner position. The Building Commissioner provides professional, technical and inspection work related to the enforcement and interpretation of the state Building Code, town Zoning By-Laws, and other applicable codes and regulations relating to building construction and design. The employee performs highly responsible duties of a technical nature requiring considerable judgement in the application, interpretation and enforcement of all building codes, floodplain regulations, handicap accessibility codes, zoning ordinances, weights and measures rules and regulations and various other federal, state and local laws and regulations. Work includes overseeing the daily operation of the inspections department, performing field inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations, maintaining records and preparing reports, and supervising staff. Employee is required to
perform all related and similar duties.
Qualifications and Education
Must comply with Certification Regulations of MGL Ch. 143 § 3 and 780 CMR as adopted and amended.
Bachelor’s degree in building construction or design or five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have a Construction Supervisor License (unrestricted), State Certification as Inspector of Buildings, or Building Commissioner, and a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
Salary
Starting salary for this position is $52.52 – $54.91 an hour. It is 37.5 hours/week. The position is a LIUNA Unit B, Grade 9, benefited position with dental, health, PTO and retirement.
