OVERVIEW
The Administrator reports to the Mayor of the city of Boston in close collaboration with the BHA Monitoring Committee and Resident Advisory Board. The leader is responsible for BHA’s day-to-day operations, including planning, administration, and coordination of all public housing and voucher programs for low-income families. They direct BHA staff in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, and work with resident communities to implement the most effective and responsive policies and programs.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Must be an excellent oral and written communicator. Demonstrated experience in fields related to public and affordable housing, public administration, policy, social justice, business administration, law, economics, sociology or urban affairs. Experience at a relevant administrative level serving the needs of low-income families, including responsibility for policy formulation, fundraising and implementation and coordination of all aspects of housing development and management. We are open to equivalent experiences of other kinds.
A strong commitment to serving the interests and needs of low-income persons and a demonstrated record of work in programs addressing the concerns of low-income households. Familiarity with BHA programs and resident population is preferred. Must be committed to the revitalization and improvement of public housing. A working knowledge of current legislation and court decisions (federal, state and local) affecting the operations of BHA, and of federal and state regulations (particularly those of HUD and DHCD) which govern the authority. Demonstrated ability to lead operations, analyze information, and direct staff work. The Administrator shall be, or within six months after the date of acceptance of the position shall become, a resident of the city of Boston and shall continue to maintain principal residence in the city of Boston during the tenure of appointment.
