The town of Longmeadow is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time 35 hours per week position of Associate Planner, reports to the Assistant Town Manager.
Professional and administrative work responsible for providing the primary technical support for various boards and committees, including but not limited to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals. Responsible for oversight and coordination of all land use permitting projects. Assists planning department with work including research, data collection, grant application and administration, and normal administrative office functions, all other related work as required.
Successful candidate must have:
- Knowledge of relevant Massachusetts General Laws related to essential functions. Thorough knowledge of community development, sustainability, planning and conservation related activities, including resource planning, land acquisitions and forestry or wildlife management. Knowledge of MGL 40A, local zoning, and subdivision control laws.
- Ability to multi-task and manage conflict. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to maintain good public relations and to maintain effective collaborative working relationships with town departments, department heads, fellow employees, officials and the general public and to respond in a courteous and professional manner. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to work independently. Ability to effectively manage and supervise staff in multiple functional areas. Ability to manage multiple project assignments under occasional time constraint; ability to interact effectively with department managers, state officials and citizen boards and committees.
- Strong communication skills, problem solving skills and customer service skills. Excellent organizational skills. Strong managerial skills.
Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, regional planning, or a closely related field; and a minimum of two years of closely related municipal experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Salary $28.38 – $30.11 per hour DOQ/DOE; excellent benefits.
