The city of Fitchburg is seeking an experienced candidate to fill the position of Assistant Treasurer/Assistant Tax Collector within the Treasurer’s office. Works under the direction and supervision of the city Treasurer/Tax Collector and in accordance with applicable provisions of M.G.L. Chapter 41, §39A and 39C§, in addition to financial ordinances governing the city of Fitchburg. Other duties include assisting the Treasurer/Tax Collector in ensuring all city accounting policies, procedures and records are compliant with generally accepted accounting principles and Government Accounting Standards Board for inspections by the state and external auditors. Supervision and oversight of all aspects of accounting functions and daily operations of Treasury Department staff. Supervision of all bookkeeping, cash reconciliation and accounts receivable on a daily basis. Supervision of staff with regard to customer relations and responses to customer queries involving billing, payments, etc. Participate in resolutions of increased complexity and/or difficult customer relations. Assist other city departments as needed with any and all departmental reporting requirements, transferring of funds and other requests as required. Supervise and manage payroll production for all active employees and retirees. Review, document and calculate payroll reports on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis. Oversight and responsibility for compliance of all mandatory reporting of federal and state employee taxes withheld. Payments and filings of quarterly forms to appropriate federal and state agencies. Oversight and responsibility for annual Affordable Care Act preparation and filing for eligible employees and retirees. The ideal candidate will possess a BA/BS in accounting, business administration, finance or related field and three years of related experience.
