The town of Natick department of Public Works (DPW) seeks an Assistant Town Engineer to assist the Town Engineer in the administrative and technical activities of the Engineering Division. The Assistant Town Engineer supports the Town Engineer with meeting division goals and helps to manage major infrastructure projects.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists the Town Engineer by planning, organizing and directing field and office activities; developing, recommending and implementing policies, systems and procedures; and conducting or overseeing surveys, studies and geographic information systems associated with the planning, design, location, construction, maintenance and repair of highways, sidewalks, bridges, water, wastewater and drainage systems, waterways, and other physical infrastructure assets
  • Supports engineering decisions, provides direction, reviews plans and designs for Town infrastructure, MADOT projects in Natick, and new development in Natick.
  • Authorizes utility and street construction permits, enforcement of rules and regulations with developers, contractors, residents, and other stakeholders
    • Writes specifications and performs cost estimates
    • Directs Engineering Division activities in the absence of Town Engineer.
    • Municipal permit management and Construction Inspection Supervision
    • Works with Town Engineer on capital planning, infrastructure stewardship and policies related to the work of the Engineering division

Requirements

  • Must hold a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field and a current Engineer-in-Training  certification. Professional Engineer preferred.
  • Five to seven years of professional experience, with particular emphasis on public works or roadway construction and maintenance
  • A combination of education, experience, and training can be considered if it is demonstrated that the required knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved
  • Have and maintain a Class D Motor Vehicle Driver’s License

The hiring Range: $84,267.35-$117,878.75 (commensurate with education and experience) with an approximate $10,000 in additional incentives/stipends for those who qualify.
