The town of Dover is seeking a motivated, detail-oriented accounting professional to serve as Assistant Town Accountant. Under the general direction of the Town Accountant, this position performs a variety of municipal accounting functions and plays an important role in maintaining accurate financial records and supporting the town’s financial operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform a range of accounting duties, including financial record maintenance, account reconciliations, revenue monitoring, and year-end closing activities.
- Research accounts and prepare financial reports and reconciliations.
- Work with the Treasurer/Collector’s Office to reconcile receipts.
- Assist with departmental management audits and costing of municipal services.
- Serve as a resource to Town departments regarding established accounting procedures.
- Stay current on changes to applicable local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
- In the temporary absence of the Town Accountant, oversee the Accounting Department and exercise the powers and authority of the Town Accountant, consistent with Massachusetts General Laws.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Associate’s degree and 3–5 years of related accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Working knowledge of municipal accounting, auditing principles, GAAP, GASB, and Massachusetts General Laws related to municipal finance, procurement, and budgeting.
- Experience with financial/accounting software, spreadsheets, and word-processing applications.
- A governmental accountant certification is beneficial but not required
- Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and time-management skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and develop effective working relationships with Town employees and departments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Successful completion of a CORI check is required.
This position is a non-exempt 35 hours per week with a four-day workweek. The hourly rate is $36.87 – $51.04 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
