The town of Avon seeks qualified candidates for the full-time Assistant Tax Collector. Duties include assisting customers at the public service window, accepting payments, posting payments, and updating accounts for all tax bills; balancing cash drawers, preparing Municipal Lien Certificates, issuing tax refunds, using online banking functions to access account information, and performing other related tasks as required. Prior bookkeeping experience in a municipal setting is highly desirable. Experience in resolving complex customer service requests is helpful. Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in business, accounting, public administration, or experience related field, with a minimum of three years of experience; or an associate’s degree with an equivalent combination of relevant education or experience, preferred and required to attend the annual School of the Massachusetts Collectors and Treasurers Association to attain certification as a Massachusetts Assistant Treasurer/Collector of Taxes. The work week is 35 hours in accordance with the operating hours of the Town Hall. The pay range is $54,727 to $65,392 annually. Salary negotiable DOQ.
