The town of Falmouth is seeking a skilled, motivated, and dependable individual to join our Falmouth Fire Rescue team as a full-time Assistant Fire Mechanic. This is a critical, hands-on role responsible for supporting the inspection, maintenance, repair, and testing of fire apparatus and equipment that directly support the delivery of essential emergency services to our community.

This position offers a stable, full-time schedule, comprehensive benefits, training, and the opportunity to perform meaningful, mission-driven work alongside a dedicated public safety team. The Assistant Fire Mechanic works 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with after-hours work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications: Must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of experience as a skilled tradesperson, heavy truck mechanic, or completion of a formal apprenticeship; or an equivalent combination of education, training, or experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.

The successful candidate must have a Massachusetts Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-B) with Air Brake endorsement and a Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License, Restriction 1C, or have the ability to obtain these licenses within six (6) months of employment. The town is willing to train and support the right candidate in obtaining the required licenses.

Expected Starting Hourly Rate: Step 1 ($33.06/hour*) to Step 3 ($38.75/hour*) of the 6-step pay scale, commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus an annual stipend of $686.40, paid biweekly.

*Rate reflects FY25 contract and is subject to an update upon ratification of a successor agreement.
