Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Director

The town of Holliston is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Director. This position directs and oversees on-scene emergency medical services (EMS) activities. Supervises work of EMS personnel assigned to ambulance operations. Monitors inventory, ordering, delivery and storage of EMS supplies. Coordinates mentoring and training of EMTs, paramedics and first responders.

Provides professional, administrative, technical and supervisory support to the Fire Chief and Fire Department; performs line operations as necessary, including responding to a wide variety of emergency situations including BLS/ALS incidents, and is responsible for the emergency medical services delivery of the Fire Department in accordance with state and local statutes and regulations.

The Assistant Fire Chief/EMS Director is responsible for managing all aspects of the EMS program, ensuring BLS level service is provided and the introduction of per diem paramedics are progressively added to the service delivery model to move toward a future ALS model. Responsible for overseeing EMTs and a pool of per diem paramedics. Manages and coordinates shift functions to ensure standard procedures, special projects and quality assurance/quality improvement (QA/QI) initiatives are carried out and completed.

Successful candidate must possess a valid Mass. driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record. Must possess a Paramedic Certification from the Massachusetts Office of Emergency Medical Services (OEMS) and CPR/AED BLS certificate for healthcare providers.

Certification as Firefighter I/II required. Associate’s degree required, bachelor’s degree preferred. Certification of Fire Officer Level 1 and Level II preferred.

Must have the ability to work various shifts on-call, when necessary.

Five years of experience providing pre-hospital emergency medical care as a paramedic.

Experience as a Firefighter I/II required. Minimum of two years of experience as a fire officer and/or a supervisor of EMS within an organization. Must have the ability to pass town of Holliston background process, drug test, and become CORI certified. Must become credentialed as a Massachusetts Fire Chief within two years of appointment.

This is a full-time position, Grade M4 on the Management Wage Classification Table. The starting salary range is $95,078-$106,271. The full range is $95,078-$128,656.
