The town of Plymouth (pop. 62,000) is seeking an Assistant Director of Inspectional Services.  Inspectional and technical work in assisting the Director of Inspectional Services with the interpretation and enforcement of the building code and statutory laws and regulations; all other related work as required.

Inspects all buildings and alterations to buildings under construction, and upon completion, to monitor compliance with the State Building Code and town zoning bylaws and other pertinent state and local regulations; inspects public safety conditions of existing buildings.  Inspects construction sites and processes building permit applications and plans.  Additionally, performs daily inspections of commercial and residential structures.  Investigates complaints of alleged building code, zoning and sign bylaw violations, and takes appropriate actions, as required.  Enforces provisions of the State Building Code and other relevant regulations.  Reviews plans for building construction or alteration to determine compliance with State Building Code, town zoning bylaws, and other applicable regulations, presents conclusions to Director.  Responds to inquiries from property owners, members of the building community, real estate firms, and the general public.  Assists the Director in managing staff, monitoring and improving operational processes, and developing and implementing departmental policy.  In the absence of the Director of Inspectional Services, serves as Acting Director.

High school graduate, five years of supervisory experience in the building trade and design, field and inspectional codes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in management or engineering, building construction or design preferred.  Massachusetts Class D Driver’s License; Massachusetts Supervisor’s License; State Certification for Building Commissioner required.  Must obtain Building Commissioner certification within 18 months from date of hire.

Salary Range: $77,901.72 – $100,460.88, 37.5 hours per week.  Effective July 1, 2022, the salary range for this position will be $86,301.28 – $108,681.04.  This posting will remain open through May 10, 2022.
