The Assistant Director of Human Resources’ work requires a knowledge and understanding of the principles of human resource management, employment issues and labor relations; applicable state and federal laws, employee policies and practices and the ability to understand the complex functions of other town departments. The incumbent must also possess the personal characteristics and skills to work effectively with the multiple constituencies and individuals with whom they must interact.

This position will help Department Heads, elected and appointed officials and Boards and Committees to navigate town policies, procedures and applicable contracts, to assist with employee relations, to provide general guidance and coaching on all HR related topics and to supervise recruitment activities for the town of Wellesley. This position will also lead Human Resource’s diversity and inclusion initiatives.

The ideal candidate will have experience in human resources or in a management role within a governmental organization. They must have the ability to communicate effectively and be able to form a consensus across a diverse audience of key stakeholders. The chosen candidate will be proficient with technology and must have the ability to adapt to and use new computer programs. Experience working and negotiating with unions, managing employee professional development and compliance training programs, conducting workplace investigations, and administering compensation systems is highly desirable.
