The city of Fitchburg is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant City Engineer within the Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works. Under the supervision of the Commissioner of Public Works/City Engineer, the Assistant City Engineer shall work with the Engineering Division in the planning, survey, design, contract specification, bidding, and construction of streets, sidewalks, drainage systems, sewers, dams, street lights, traffic improvements, and other public works infrastructure. With the primary duties and responsibilities with the DPW Engineering Division, s/he shall have a prominent role in the development and implementation of the infrastructure section of the city’s capital budget and make recommendations to the Commissioner of Public Works.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a bachelor of science degree in engineering or related field, with a minimum of five years of broad-based demonstrated experience in the areas of surveying, engineering and construction; One year of relevant work experience may be substituted for each year of required education. Current registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) and/or a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in Commonwealth of Massachusetts is preferred but not required. Experience in land surveying, knowledge and experience with conventional and total station surveying systems/procedures, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and GIS software is preferred.
