Assistant Assessor
(Full-Time, 35 Hours per Week)
The town of Easton is accepting applications for a qualified individual to fill the position of full-time Assistant Assessor. The Assistant Assessor assists the Chief Assessor with various aspects of municipal tax assessment activities, including administrative and field work, as well as other work as required in accordance with the Massachusetts General Laws, town polices, bylaws and Massachusetts Department of Revenue.
Duties include, but are not limited to, measuring, listing and taking digital pictures of properties; preparing valuation reports; processing exemption applications and changes; processing building permit information as needed; maintaining departmental files, including personal property files; attending regional and state assessors’ meetings in an effort to maintain MAA designation; may also attend Board of Assessors meetings.
Recommended Minimum Qualifications:
Associate degree preferred; three to five years of experience in the valuation of property for tax purposes; or any equivalent of education and experience. Current Massachusetts accredited assessor (MAA) designation or intent to begin the process within first year of employment and continued work toward this until achieved. Ability to become a Massachusetts Notary Public. Valid motor vehicle driver’s license and the successful candidate must provide proof of an acceptable driving record from the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
This is a union position with excellent benefits and municipal pension system. Step 1 is $32.63 per hour; anticipated hiring range is $32.63-$35.66 per hour ($59,386.60-$64,915.76 annual salary) depending on qualifications.
