Job Description

The town of Pembroke is seeking a qualified and motivated individual to fill the role of Assistant Assessor.  The position works directly under the Chief Assessor assisting with the daily operations of the Assessor’s office. This is a 37.5 hour a week union position.

Salary Range: Hourly rate of $30.50 (step 1) – $35.50 (step 5), commensurate with qualifications and experience. Town offers a comprehensive municipal package with health (town contributes 75% towards health insurance premiums), dental, pension, and paid time off.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions

  • Assists the Chief Assessor in the implementation of all assessing policies, revaluation and recertification plans and programs
  • Development of valuation of property
  • Performs field inspection for cyclical re-inspections, sales, and building permits
  • Processes and reviews all Chapter Land applications and PILOT bills
  • Proficient in the Assessors’ Computer Assisted Mass Appraisal system (AssessPro/AP5 preferred)
  • Assists with new growth calculations
  • Assists in the review of property transfers and subdivision plans, excise abatements and tax exemptions

Special Requirements

Preferable to have Massachusetts Accredited Assessor Association designation or acquire it within three years of employment. Must successfully complete Massachusetts Department of Revenue Course 101 within 9 months of hire.
