POSITION SUMMARY (FULL JOB DESCRIPTION FOLLOWS BELOW)
Under the general direction of the Director of Constituent Services and Chelsea Police Department’s Community Services Division, the Animal Control Officer is responsible for protecting public safety and promoting animal welfare by enforcing animal control laws, responding to complaints involving stray, dangerous, or neglected animals, conducting investigations, and providing public education on responsible pet ownership. The position also oversees the safe capture, care, and sheltering of animals while ensuring compliance with applicable state and local regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience:
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
Experience: One to three (1-3) years of experience in animal care and control, law enforcement, or a related field. Massachusetts Animal Fund Core Competencies Training (MANDATORY). Knowledge of wildlife animals and aggressive behavior animals.
Certifications: Certification from the Animal Control Officers Association of Massachusetts (ACOAM) is required within six (6) months of appointment.
Licenses: Valid MA Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
