The town of Manchester is seeking qualified applicants to join our team as the Administrative Assistant to the Assessing/Building Department. The main duties of this full-time (33.5 hours/week) position are to assist the Principal Assessor in a variety of technical and administrative support functions and Building Department administration, including the issuance of building permits, electrical, plumbing, and gas permits. Coordinates the activity of inspectors and handles correspondence. Maintains property record cards for real property, current market, and assessed value considered, and enters into the database. Performs a variety of functions of an administrative and technical nature, requiring the exercise of judgment to interpret guidelines and carry out assignments independently. Requires a working knowledge of all town departmental operations and local and state laws and involves various practices and techniques. Successful candidates will possess exceptional attention to detail, excellent communication and problem-solving skills, ability to work with confidential information, and experience with personal computers, including Microsoft Excel and Word, database, and spreadsheet applications. Candidate must be a team player, highly organized, self-motivated, and possess excellent judgment and customer service skills. Candidates should have three to six months’ experience in general clerical and secretarial work; or an equivalent combination of education, and experience. MAAO designation and Commonwealth of Mass., Dept. of Revenue – Course 101 preferred. The current hourly rate is $30.80 to $35. The AFSCME Union contract sets the hourly rate.
