The city of Amesbury is seeking a detail-oriented and professional Administrative Assistant to support the Department of Public Works. This full-time, 35-hour-per-week position reports to the Director and collaborates closely with division leaders in Water, Wastewater, Highway, and Facilities.

Responsibilities include managing staff schedules and departmental records, overseeing permit processes (street openings, dumpsters, special events), processing cemetery lot sales and deed transfers, responding to public inquiries, and supporting document management. The role also involves updating website content and forms, preparing reports, tracking solid waste and recycling data, ordering office supplies, and general administrative support.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of administrative experience; an associate degree is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft 365, strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment are essential. The ideal candidate will demonstrate professionalism, discretion, and the ability to work effectively with city staff, residents, and outside agencies.
