Town of Swampscott – Town Clerk
The town of Swampscott is seeking a dedicated and experienced Town Clerk to serve as the official custodian of the town’s records and democratic processes. Reporting to the Town Administrator, the Town Clerk oversees vital records, the Town Seal, licensing and permits, elections, voter registration, public records compliance, and supports boards, committees, and Town Meeting operations.
This leadership role supervises one full-time staff member and manages approximately 75 part-time election workers, as well as additional seasonal staff. The Town Clerk ensures transparency, accuracy, and adherence to Massachusetts General Laws, Open Meeting Law, and ethics regulations, while providing excellent service to residents, businesses, and municipal officials.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in public administration, political science, or related field required; master’s preferred. Minimum of five to seven years of municipal or public service experience, including supervisory and election management responsibilities. Massachusetts Notary Public and Justice of the Peace certification required within one year; CMMC preferred. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills are essential.
Compensation: Full-time, exempt; salary $70,000–$85,000 with benefits.
