The town of Longmeadow, MA is seeking a full time Principal Assessor to provide technical and professional guidance and advice to the appointed members of the Board of Assessors and the Finance Director. Plans, organizes, directs and participates in all appraising and assessing activities related to real and personal property to establish the town property tax.

Proficient in MS Office, thorough knowledge of state laws relating to municipal finance and property assessment; working familiarity with real estate styles, materials, methods of construction, and with alternative formulas for determining assessments of various types of property. Ability to recognize and analyze factors which influence the value of properties. A successful candidate must have good interpersonal skills, attention to detail with the ability to meet deadlines.

Bachelor’s degree in business, management, land use, planning or a related field plus five years of related assessing work or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certification by the Massachusetts Association of Assessing Officers required within one year of hire. Possession of a Massachusetts Class D license and ability to operate a vehicle is required.
