The city of Amesbury is seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Clerk/Human Resources Assistant to support the timely and accurate processing of bi-weekly payroll and benefit invoices for city and School employees. This position also provides administrative support for the city’s Human Resources department.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Process bi-weekly payroll, ensuring accurate deductions, taxes, and reporting.
  • Reconcile benefit deductions and process related invoices.
  • Maintain payroll records, generate reports, and assist with W-2 and 1095-C forms.
  • Support HR functions including onboarding, personnel file management, and employment verifications.
  • Coordinate with city and school departments on payroll and benefit matters.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; two-plus years of payroll experience required (municipal experience preferred).
  • Strong computer and spreadsheet skills, attention to detail, and ability to maintain confidentiality.

This is a full-time, benefit-eligible position offering a collaborative work environment and the opportunity to support essential City operations.

Compensation $26.00 – $30.00 hourly
