Title: Firefighter – Paramedic
Department: Fire Department, 135 Nahatan St., Norwood, MA 02062
Status: FLSA Non-Exempt, Union (Represented by Local 1631), Full Time Position
Hours: Two 24-hour shifts every eight days
Salary: FY26, Grade FF40 $31.79 – $33.74 for steps 1-3 (salary range exceeds hiring range)
Summary: Protects life and property by performing firefighting, emergency aid, hazardous materials response, and fire prevention duties.
Essential Functions: *
- Performs firefighting activities including driving fire apparatus, operating pumps and related equipment, laying hose, and performing fire combat, containment, and extinguishment tasks.
- Performs emergency aid activities including administering first aid
- Participates in fire drills, attends classes in firefighting, emergency medical, hazardous materials, and related subjects
- Presents programs to the community on safety, medical, and fire prevention topics
Minimum Requirements: *
- Massachusetts State certified (EMT/P) Emergency Medical Technician/Paramedic on date of hire, or currently enrolled in a paramedic program
- Pro Board-Certified Firefighter I/II from a full-time Fire Academy, preferred
- Possess a valid State driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- Pass all pre-employment tests, including physical abilities, pre-employment physical screening and background checks.
