The town of Northborough seeks an experienced Fire Chief to lead its fire department serving 16,000 residents over 19 square miles. The department operates with a $3.4 million FY2027 budget, provides ALS transport services, and is staffed by professional personnel with modern apparatus. The salary range is $155,000–$170,000, DOQ, plus benefits.
Appointed by the Select Board and reporting to the Town Administrator, the Chief has strong administrative authority and is responsible for strategic planning, budgeting, labor relations, and overall department leadership. Key priorities include overseeing the transition into a new fire station, long-term planning, and fostering collaborative, data-driven leadership.
Candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree in fire science, business administration, public administration, or a related field; (master’s preferred) and have seven to ten years of progressive fire service experience, including at least five years in a command role.
