The town of Cohasset is seeking an experienced and motivated Director of Public Health to lead public health initiatives that protect and promote the well-being of our residents. Reporting to the Town Manager and supporting the Board of Health, this position plans, administers, and enforces public and environmental health regulations while overseeing department operations, programs, and staff.

The Director serves as the primary health authority for the community, overseeing inspections, compliance activities, local health policies, and emergency preparedness. Responsibilities include supervising the Public Health Nurse and Administrative Assistant, conducting inspections of food establishments, housing, and other regulated facilities, coordinating outreach programs and health clinics, responding to public inquiries, and collaborating with state and regional partners. The role also oversees budgeting, grant preparation, and departmental records.

A bachelor’s degree in public health, community nursing, biological or sanitary sciences, or related field is required; a master’s in public health or public administration is preferred. Candidates should have three to five years of public health experience, including one year of administrative responsibility, and expertise in Title V septic systems. Strong leadership, communication, and regulatory enforcement skills are essential.
