The city of Newburyport is seeking a qualified full-time Building Commissioner to perform responsible work in accordance with applicable provisions of the MGL, local chapter and bylaws. Primary duties include examining building plans to ensure compliance with Massachusetts building codes, AAB and other related laws, regulations and standards. The Building Commissioner supervises staff as it relates to job assignments, personnel and completion of duties.

This position requires a college degree comparable to Master Apprentice knowledge of construction trades with at least five years of experience in the supervision of building construction or design. Must be certified as a Massachusetts Local Building Inspector; certification as a Building Inspector/Commissioner or ability to attain certification as a Building Inspector/Commissioner within the first 18 months is preferred. Must possess a valid state drivers license.
