The town of Brookline’s department of Public Works is seeking an experienced transportation professional to oversee and advance its transportation and mobility programs. The Associate Director of Transportation and Mobility is responsible for planning, design, and day-to-day operations for roads, sidewalks, bike lanes, parking, and traffic control systems, as well as management of the public right-of-way.

The Associate Director supervises professional staff, consultants, and interns; manages complex capital and operational projects; develops budgets; oversees contracts; and pursues grants to support transportation and mobility investments. The role also advances key initiatives such as Complete Streets, Vision Zero, traffic calming, bicycle network implementation, shared mobility programs, permit parking, and EV charging. Additional responsibilities include licensing and regulation of taxis, livery, valet, jitney, and rideshare services, and representing the Town with regional and state partners including the MBTA and MassDOT.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, transportation planning/management, or a related field; at least five years of progressively responsible experience, including two years in a municipal setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience; PE license desirable; Massachusetts driver’s license required. Strong supervisory, project management, and communication skills are essential.

Salary: $118,447–$134,017, plus excellent benefits.
